Nelson Mandela 46664 Welcomed Into Second Life Community
(November 22nd, 2007)
There will be a special Wire Daisies concert on Second Life coinciding with and to benefit Nelson Mandela's 46664 World Aids Day Concert in South Africa.

It’s not an easy connection to make: man of the soil Nelson Mandela and the virtual world of Second Life.

But the creative community’s absorption with the fantasy life could well produce real benefits for the former president’s campaigning on behalf of HIV AIDS when the virtual world platform plugs into his forthcoming 46664 World AIDS Day concert set for Johannesburg December 1.

Already the concert, which furthers the work of the charitable organisation which carries Mr Mandela’s former prison number, has attracted on-the-ground performances from the likes of such global artists as Annie Lennox and Peter Gabriel, along with more than a dozen of South Africa’s biggest music names who will appear at the city’s 50,000 seater Ellis Park stadium.

As one of the charity’s founding ambassadors (all artists performing for Mandela become ‘ambassadors’ committed to continuing the work of 46664) Treana who earned her place among 46664’s campaign front-runners when she appeared performing The Show Must Go On with rock giants Queen at the first 46664 concert in South Africa in 2003, is planning to use the SL’s digital continent to further the call for tangible support for Mandela’s work.

The Daisies are planning a parallel one hour World Aids Day live music concert which will call on SL’s ‘Residents’ to dig deep into their pockets and donate to those living harsher lives in the stark world of HIV AIDS. The initiative hopes to make new use of a network that offers access to a reported 9.8 million registered users.

As something of a first, there’s little way of gauging at this stage the likely generosity of the community to Wire Daisies’ own personal 46664 good will mission, but it will be interesting to observe whether the band will be setting new frontiers in the SL world and ushering it into the arena of charitable purposes.

The Mandela 46664 Johannesburg concert is staged at Ellis Park Stadium on December 1st starting at 14h00 South African Standard Time (GMT + 2).

Wire Daisies 46664 Second Life concert on December 1st will take place from Menorca and beamed on to screens throughout the virtual world of Second Life starting at 22h00 GMT.

Nelson Mandela’s speech from Ellis Park will be streamed directly into the Wire Daisies concert.

Listen to the interview with Larry Flick
(November 7th, 2007)

Don't forget to go to the audio section on this site and listen to the fantastic interview that Treana (or is that TreAnna?) and Ol did with Larry Flick on Sirius radio. Larry pays Treana compliments galore, flags Ol as a future teen idol and is all ready to send some screaming girls and boys over to Cornwall. He thinks the Daisies are as charming as their music is good...

Go reviews!
(November 6th, 2007)

The Daisies are getting lots of press in America, will a column in HX magazine and a rave review in the November issue of Go. The New York based lesbian mag, available both in print and online, predicts that the Daisies are about to take the US pop scene by storm and "win over American audiences with their honest pop-folk melodies". The band have also had blog postings on popnography.com and joemygod.blogspot.com.
